Product Description
Aluminum sulfate (chemical formula: Al2 (SO4) 3) is a widely used industrial reagent that is often confused with alum. Aluminum sulfate is commonly used as a flocculant in purifying drinking water and sewage treatment equipment, as well as in the papermaking industry. Under natural conditions, aluminum sulfate hardly exists in the form of anhydrous salts. It forms a series of hydrates, among which aluminum sulfate hexahydrate is the most common. Aluminum sulfate is also a very effective mollusc insecticide that can kill Spanish slugs.

1. Water Treatment
• Coagulation and Flocculation: Aluminum sulfate is widely used as a coagulant in water treatment processes. When dissolved in water, it forms aluminum hydroxide gel, which adsorbs and precipitates suspended particles, bacteria, and organic matter, improving water clarity and quality.
• Phosphate Removal: It reacts with phosphate ions to form insoluble aluminum phosphate, effectively reducing phosphate levels in water bodies and preventing eutrophication.
• pH Adjustment: Due to its acidic nature, aluminum sulfate can neutralize alkaline water, optimizing the pH for various water treatment processes.
• Special Wastewater Treatment: It is effective in treating oily wastewater, fluoride-containing wastewater, and even radioactive wastewater by forming insoluble compounds that can be easily removed.
2. Paper Industry
• Sizing Agent: In the papermaking process, aluminum sulfate is used as a sizing agent to improve the water resistance of paper. It reacts with rosin and other sizing agents to form a barrier that prevents ink from spreading and enhances paper quality.
• pH Regulator: It helps maintain the acidic environment required for effective sizing and improves the strength and smoothness of paper by promoting the binding of fibers and fillers.
• Dye Fixative: Aluminum sulfate can form complexes with dye molecules, enhancing the colorfastness and uniformity of dyed paper.
3. Textile Industry
• Mordant: Aluminum sulfate is commonly used as a mordant in dyeing processes, especially for natural fibers like cotton and linen. It forms complexes with dye molecules, ensuring that the dye adheres firmly to the fabric, resulting in vibrant and durable colors.
• pH Adjuster: It helps regulate the pH of dye baths, optimizing dyeing conditions and reducing the environmental impact of textile wastewater.
4. Agriculture
• Soil pH Adjustment: Aluminum sulfate can be used to lower the pH of alkaline soils, improving soil conditions for plant growth by neutralizing excess alkalinity.
• Pesticide Adjuvant: It enhances the effectiveness of pesticides by altering the physicochemical properties of the environment where pests live.
